Welcome to the sexy sextuplet paradiddles drum lesson. This is a really fun paradiddle drum fill with a twist because we dip a toe into implied metric modulation which might deceive the listener into thinking we’ve changed tempo when actually we’re just playing a four note phrasing over sextuplets.
Sound confusing? Well hopefully 🤞 this video will break it down so that it makes sense.
Once we understand these concepts we can use them in our fills and drum beats to create interest. They are not the type of thing you would use in a pop gig but there is plenty of opportunity to use them in all sorts of situations. You can even get the rest of the band to follow the rhythm when writing songs to maximise the impact of the rhythmic effect.
