Hi, I’m Jamie Oliver and as you can see, I am NOT a celebrity chef!
I started drumming when I was 12 years old, some 25+ years ago and I’ve been in love with it ever since. When I saw Mike Bordin absolutely smashing the drums with Faith No More, Jason Bowld slaying with Pitchshifter, and Vinnie Colaiuta in clinic with Steve Gadd, I knew it was the life of a drummer that I wanted above all else.
That’s why I studied music and honed my skills under the tutelage of the legendary session drummer, Karl Brazil. This invaluable learning experience absolutely sky rocketed my drumming to heights I never imagined would be possible.
I went on to tour all over the world drumming for bands like the legendary U.K. Subs and SNFU, sharing stages with my heroes like Motorhead, Rancid, Bad Religion, NOFX, The Damned, The Adicts, Pennywise and even Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant. I’ve played at some of the biggest festivals and tours in the world including Wacken, Hellfest and the Vans Warped Tour. I’ve also collaborated with the likes of Lars Frederiksen, Ginger Wildheart and countless others – even the Crystal Maze TV gameshow host Ed Tudor Pole!
I firmly believe that pursuing the life of a professional drummer can be one of the most vibrant, dynamic and rewarding lifestyle choices a person can make. I also believe that the best way to achieve that dream is by getting serious about learning from the get go.
It’s my philosophy that there is no right or wrong when it comes to drumming. It just depends on what you are trying to achieve and your approach towards reaching those goals. That being said, there are tried and tested methods of improving a drummer’s abilities extremely quickly. As a Total Drummer tutor, I have access to a massive syllabus which does just that. Combined with intentional practice and a tutor who’s seen it all, I believe this incredible life is there for the taking.
