How To Create Job Security With Drum Teaching

Question: Do you feel in total control of your life and your financial stability?

For many of us the answer is ‘No’.

A lot of us are employed people. When you are employed it can give a sense of safety. You have a job that pays your bills, you know you work hard and therefore your job is safe. Every month you know exactly how much money will enter your bank account and on what date that will happen.

The thought of being self employed might even seem disastrously unpredictable. Nothing is guaranteed, the income can fluctuate, there isn’t a set date that you get paid, rather the money comes in dribs and drabs following each transaction. I know many employed people who are terrified of the thought of being self-employed.

But here’s the catch:

Employed people are not in control. That job is only yours until the company change their mind. Maybe they have a reshuffle, maybe business goes down so they make cut, maybe they merge with another company and reorganise everything, maybe you are just not needed anymore.

And the worst part is that you don’t even have to have done anything wrong. You might have fulfilled your role and then some, but still you could lose your job.

I’ve seen it happen to many people and the effect on them and their family is devastating.

And never has that been more true than post corona virus. So many people are being laid off and are desperately looking for new jobs that often don’t exist because so many other people are trying to get the same jobs.

So what is the solution?

Well one solution is to take full control of your destiny, of your finances and of your life.

For me that has only ever meant running my own business. As a musician and music teacher that is all I have ever really known and so I have learnt that if I work hard then I get rewards. No-one can fire me, I am in total control.

It’s not all plain sailing, there are risks, and it does mean working bloody hard, but when the hard work is put in I know that I will be rewarded rather than me working hard to line the pockets of some CEO in a big company.

And for me drum teaching has been a big part of me achieving that. And the best part is that I get that control and stability doing something that I am passionate about and that has a positive effect on my customers (students). I enrich their lives doing something that I love and I get to have control of my life.

There are also loads of other great benefits which you can see here.

And so when we had our first child and my wife stopped working, I didn’t need to grovel to my boss for a pay rise; I simply did more marketing in my business and generated more income. I had total control.
