This Is The Hold On I'm Coming Drum Notation

Welcome to the Hold On I’m Coming drum notation. This is the full drum sheet music for this soul classic originally titled Hold On I’m Comin’.

This was written by the Stax writing team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter but recorded by Sam and Dave and released in 1966.

As a Stax track it had the Stax house band ‘Booker T and the MGs’ providing the music and that means Al Jackson Jr on drums.

This is classic Al with a grooving yet super restrained drum part with little deviation from the main beats. He creates interest between parts by varying the bass drum pattern.

It’s actually really difficult to play this song with the same discipline that Al had and that’s what makes the exercise so fun to read the exact notes from the drum sheet music and try to pay it accurately.

You can see a full play through of this sheet music below to test that it had been written accurately.
